Periorbital Dermoid Cyst

Periorbital dermoid cyst classically occurs at the outer edge of the eyebrow. This is a position where in utero the developing skin meets up and if a small amount of skin is trapped on the inside there is nowhere for the shed cells to go and it slowly builds up as a cyst.   Surgical resection is recommended and is curative.

Post-operative care

We recommend no baths or showers for 2 days after the operation and then return to normal baths and showers. The wound is either covered with tissue glue or a clear, waterproof dressing. This will fall off of its own accord and does not need to be replaced. The stitches are dissolving stiches. They are under the skin and do not need to be removed. Return to all normal activities e.g swimming and sports after 10 days.
